ROCK(‘N’ROLL) GARDEN
RocknRoll Community Garden, an organization dedicated to supportable, sustainable, local organic living and community, is currently creating a Communal Urban Rooftop Farm in the heart of Echo Park. They’re also holding a weekly series of live music and lectures to combine education, activism and community with beauty and art. On tap tonight from 7-9 pm is live music by Motel @ Milagro Highland Community Garden, and community gardening lectures by Mary Tokita (LA CGC) & Nichole Gatto. All events are by donation, and they’ll have $3 mimosas.

THEATRE
Café Metropol in Downtown Los Angeles hosts the play The Debate over Courtney O’Connell of Columbus, Nebraska tonight at 8 pm. It’s set in a tavern in Nebraska where Courtney’s ex-boyfriend has challenged her new fiancé to a public debate for her hand, invoking the Morgan Morality Act of 1894. Courtney is forced to choose a winner, which is probably going to be difficult since debate is a real turn on...The second act of the play takes us back in time to a re-enactment of the events that led to the writing of the “Morgan Morality Act,” which may or may not exist. The play runs through July 25 on Sundays and Mondays, and tickets are xx.

ART
Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro hosts the opening “For Fame and Love,” an exhibition “exposing the quintessential, yet taboo components of art making: ego and love.” Artists Kris Chatterson, Linda Day, Fatima Hoang and Jay Lizo use abstraction, performance, language and music to create their works. The exhibit’s being curated by Devon Tsuno. The open reception is being held today from 2-4 pm.
