MORE ART*
El Nopal Press presents the exhibit “Nineteen Eighty-Five,” which features artwork by graphic novelist James Reitano. The show includes original drawings from the book, as well as a limited edition lithograph. The graphic novel -- which includes a specially commissioned CD of 1985-era hip-hop tunes mixed by Peanut Butter Wolf -- will also be for sale at the show. Tonight’s opening reception begins at 6 pm tonight.
DANCE
The dance company Backhausdance holds an informal company concert “Deconstructed” tonight and tomorrow night at 7:30 pm at Chapman University’s Waldmar Theatre. The evening gives the audience a glimpse at the choreographic process and methods used to create some of Backhausdance's signature works. Tickets are $15.
SCOTCH
There’s a “Scotch Stimulus Tasting” at the Daily Pint in Santa Monica tonight with Ed Adams from Diageo. It’s $25 for four pours or nine for $50. What’s on the tasting menu? Glenkinchie 12 yr, Dalwhinnie 15 yr, Lagavulin 16 yr, Oban 14 yr, Clynelish 14yr, Caol Ila 12 y r, Talisker 10 yr, Cragganmore 12 yr, Singleton 12 yr. There will be a bbq in the parking lot, so food will be available for purchase. (And you’ll probably need it after all that scotch! If you wear a kilt, get 25% off your favorite Scotch from the evening! The festivities begin at 9 pm, but get there earlier if possible.
SINGALONG
It's Beatlemania at Friday Night Sing-Alongs at Walt Disney Concert Hall’s W.M. Keck Amphitheatre. Starting tonight at 7:30, belt out your favorite Beatles classics with the crowd, backed by live musicians. If you don’t know the words, lyric sheets will be provided. Admission is free, but tickets will be distributed 45 minutes prior to start of event. Capacity is limited, so one ticket per person to those waiting in line.
DRINKS
The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles holds its monthly “Cocktails in Historic Places” tonight from 6-8 pm at the Edison. It’s the bar’s "Soup Kitchen" Friday, so take advantage of 35 cent cocktails and free tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. It’s located in Downtown’s Higgins Building, which was, for awhile, the tallest building west of the Mississippi. Valet parking is available for $9
