LAst Night's Action: Angels Get By Twins

LA Angels defeat Minnesota Twins 6-5 (10th inning). On the day the Angels unveiled the logo for next season's All Star Game being hosted at Angels Stadium, the Angels needed some extra to come from behind against the Twins. With Joan Jett in attendance, the Angels allowed Jason Kubel to ride roughshod over them. Kubel went 2-for-5 with three RBI in this game giving him 10 RBI in four games against the Angels. Jered Weaver would go seven innings plus one batter in the eighth inning giving up four runs on six hits and two walks. In the bottom of the ninth inning facing Twins closer Joe Nathan, the Angels dinked and dunked scoring twice to tie the game at five and give Nathan only his third blown save of the season. After Angels closer Brian Fuentes came in and pitched a perfect tenth, Mike Napoli hit a walkoff RBI single off of Jesse Crain in the home half of the inning.

Notable Notes

• Broderick Turner and Mike Bresnahan of the LA Times are reporting that the Lakers and forward Lamar Odom are back at the bargaining table. Last week the Lakers yanked their initial offer of $30 millions over three years or $36 million over four years with a partial guarantee of the fourth year. While no other team can offer Odom that kind of deal, Odom didn't take it. It will be interesting to see what the next offer will be.
• Kevin Roderick of LA Observed did a great job of documenting the aftermath of Time Warner's glitch during Wednesday night's Dodgers game. A customer from Koreatown persevered and got a $10 credit to her account. Good for her. And thanks to Tom Hoffarth of the Daily News' "Farther Off the Wall" blog for the shout out of my "nasty commentary"!
• Mark Buerhle of the Chicago White Sox pitched a perfect game for the Chicago White Sox Thursday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays. 27 up, 27 down. No hits, no walks, no errors, no hit batters. Buerhle joined a very select group of humanity to become the 18th pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball to pitch a perfect game. While that was a great moment to watch, listening to the call by the White Sox broadcasters left much to be desired. So here's this. Listen as Vin Scully calls Sandy Koufax's perfect game against the Chicago Cubs on September 9, 1965, the only by a Dodgers pitcher. While Scully had also called Don Larsen's and Dennis Martinez's perfect game calls this was his only opportunity to call a Dodgers perfect game.
