Trojans just trying to cope

When USC coach Lane Kiffin opened spring practice in April, there was the odd sight of paid security guards monitoring the sidelines of Howard Jones Field. It seemed like a reaction to the loose nature of former coach Pete Carroll's practices, but really it was a directive from the school's compliance office, already well aware of the NCAA's feeling that the football program was out of control when it came to monitoring boosters and groupies that surrounded the team.
